How to play Gothic Tarot

Gothic Tarot follows traditional French tarot: 78 cards, bidding at the start of each round, then a taker who takes on the defence trick after trick. The idea takes minutes to grasp and many games to master: make your contract by winning the right cards at the right time.

The game counts the points for you and shows the score table at the end of every round, so you can focus on strategy rather than arithmetic.

Tarot for 3, 4 and 5 players

• 3 players: a fast-paced game where everyone plays for themselves.
• 4 players: the reference format: a lone taker against three defenders.
• 5 players: calling the king creates a secret alliance the other players must unmask.

The gothic variant

Gothic Tarot applies a specific rule for the called king: on the first trick, its suit can only be led with the king itself. It is explained in full with the game rules.

A free Android mobile app, solo or multiplayer

Practise solo against an artificial intelligence to learn the rules at your own pace, then join real-time multiplayer tables to challenge other tarot fans.

The game is completely free for every table and mode. Ads stay discreet and never interrupt a game in progress. The app and this website are available in eight languages.
